Any meal can be transformed into a healthy plate. Compare these meal makeovers and you will be amazed how just a few changes can make a big difference.

Here are 5 easy tips to follow to makeover any plate:
1) Add more fruits and vegetable to every meal.
2) Drink plenty of water or other calorie-free drinks.
3) Eat five smaller meals instead of two big meals.
4) Feel full by getting more fiber and nutrients.
5) Try healthy snacks and avoid empty calories.

The Power of Habits

At the Lean Teen Program, we are a lot more than just fitness and weight loss. Our mission is to give teens the tools to transform their lives and build healthy habits that will last a lifetime. We focus primarily on helping teens develop healthy eating and exercise habits because I strongly believe that to transform their lives, our teens must first learn to master their habits. Their habits will control their destiny!

We don’t realize the power that habits have over our lives because they are automatic. We eat a cookie, watch television, and surf the internet without giving it much thought. Not realizing that our habits shape us. And though each habit means very little on their own, the meals we order, how often we exercise, and the amount of television we watch, together these habits have enormous impact on our health, productivity, and happiness. Welcome to the Lean Teen Blog!

My name is Jorge and I am the President of the Lean Teen Program. My wife, Kalina, is the Program Director and has over 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist and high school counselor working with teens. The fact is that obesity is currently the number ONE cause of death in our country as more adults develop heart disease and stroke early in life. The GOOD NEWS is that all of these deaths are preventable. My wife and I truly believe that adolescence is the most important time in a person’s life to start developing healthy habits. That is why we are on a mission to help kids get fit! 

Our journey is a story filled with challenges, perseverance, hope, and lots of faith. It all began in 2002 as we ventured into entrepreneurship to follow our passion and start a fitness and weight loss center that we named Ladies Inshape. As our business grew, we realized that that while there were many fitness and weight loss centers for adults there were no programs to help teens lose weight and develop healthy habits. To fill this need we developed the Lean Teen Program as a complete program that included nutritional counseling, group support and exercise classes. Our mission was to give kids (ages 8-18) all the tools they needed to transform their lives!
From the beginning, the Lean Teen Program became popular among teens and was even featured in the Miami Herald Newspaper and on the Channel 7 Prime Time News with Marilyn Mitzel (Click here for link: Our kids were finally getting help losing weight and gaining the strength, confidence, and self-esteem they needed to realize their full potential. As the Lean Teen Program became a big part of our life, my wife and I also faced our own personal struggles. We had a strong desire to have children of our own but couldn’t have any.
After lots of prayer, we decided that our best option to have children was to move to Charlotte. We sold our business in 2005 to take on the challenge of infertility. It was a difficult struggle and after 8 years of trying to have children we realized that God had different plans for us. God wants us to have lots of children! Our Lean Teens will be our children and it is our calling to share our love of nutrition and exercise with them. We look forward to serving our kids in Charlotte with excellence and hope to make a BIG difference in their lives as we grow the Lean Teen Program. Thank you for your support!
